About me

Welcome to the Salad; my name is Cezary, though I usually go by Caesar, and hence the name of the site. I’m a 2006 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where I earned a B.A. from the College of Arts and Sciences (Philosophy major, Music minor, Classical Studies minor) and a B.S.E. from the Wharton School (Management concentration). After graduation, I moved to New York City, where I went from a career in finance to financial journalism. I now write for Infrastructure Investor magazine - click on the link below if you haven’t heard of it and are curious what it is like.

When I’m not at work, I can usually be found up at Columbia Journalism School, where I’m studying part-time to earn my MS in journalism. My concentrations are investigative journalism (via the Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism) and digital journalism.

For those of you familiar with the Columbia curriculum, every MS class does a beginner’s crash course in reporting and writing, RW1. My RW1 class, taught by Profs. Anthony DePalma and Nancy Sharkey, is specializing in environmental reporting - check out our stories at our RW1 news website, The Green Standard.

About the site

“Cezary Salad” was the name of my long-running column at the Daily Pennsylvanian, the student newspaper of the University of Pennsylvania. Although it went through several permutations as either “Cezary Salad,” “Return of the Salad” (after a study-abroad hiatus in Australia) and “The Salad Strikes Back,” it enjoyed a good run the paper and so I started up this website as a continuation of it after I’ve graduated.

For a long time I was immersed in finance and economics, so most of my post-Penn writing centered on those topics. In March 2008 I was invited to join the Forbes Business and Finance Blog Network (hence the logo on the left-hand side).

I also post here links to my published works, opinion pieces and other writings, as well as pictures from my travels and, yes, the occasional reflection on life and how (and where) it’s going.
